Comenzemos el mes de octubre recordando lo que sucedió hace un año en Cataluña: tiene algo de eterno retorno, de piedra de Sísifo que vuelve al punto de partida después de haberla aupado con sufrimiento hasta llegar a ningún lado. Y me deja incómodo a la hora de pensar una columna, así que me pongo a hacer otras cosas: desde que terminé la frase anterior me dediqué a vaciar un trastero, contestar un montón de correo pendiente, hacer masa de croquetas y un par de lavadoras. Un psicólogo y buen amigo*, y no puede ser sino casualidad, escribía este fin de semana sobre cómo dejamos lo que tenemos que hacer para embarcarnos en otras tareas: en vez de afrontar el compromiso, nos dedicamos eficazmente a otras que estaban por ahí, revoloteando y tentándonos (sin saberlo acaso). Le llaman procrastinar, que viene de una voz latina que significaba “dejar para mañana”. Y parece que colectivamente procrastinamos más de lo que queremos reconocer, e incluso parece haber buenas razones para esta conducta.
Vilfredo Pareto fue un politólogo suizo-italiano que notó que el 20% de la población italiana tenía un 80% de la propiedad. Y que esta distribución se repetía en muchas otras cuestiones de la vida humana, por ejemplo, que de una tarea más o menos un 20% nos consume el 80% del tiempo, lo que implica necesariamente que el otro 20% del tiempo nos toca hacer el 80% del trabajo restante. O al revés, según lo miremos con más o menos agobio. Les dejo el 20% de trabajo de establecer analogías adecuadas a la situación política, porque Pareto da para lo que da, que no es demasiado. Y me quedo con otro estudio**, que demuestra que hasta las hormigas dosifican su labor con una ley de este tipo: una mayoría no hace especialmente nada mientras otras pocas (una quinta parte) apechugan con el trabajo. Es lunes, por cierto.
