¡Llevo tres semanas sin colocar por aquí la columna del lunes en el periódico! Y no me había acordado, es que esto de tener que hacer tantas cosas hace que uno olvide lo importante. O al menos lo que solìa ser importante, desde aquellos años de los blogs que pasaron ya a mejor vida. Bueno, aquí pongo la última, la de ayer lunes 13 de mayo de 2019, el MILENIO de Diario de Noticias.
Estamos acostumbrándonos a conocer el mundo a través de imágenes impactantes, de reportajes con protagonistas heroicos: el periodismo, en cierto modo, se ha convertido a la nueva religión del impacto y el "me gusta" y los medios necesitan desesperadamente cada día llenar de maravillas la primera plana. De niño leía con delectación noticias extaordinarias que llegaban cada mes en el ejemplar del
Reader’s Digest(*) al que estábamos suscritos, y otras revistas comenzaron a incorporar reportajes chulos de este tipo. Nos traían una realidad lejana de manera atractiva, sorprendente. Los tiempos han propiciado que esa práctica se haga mayoritaria y se busque como estrategia de venta. Ahora es más fácil encontrar imágenes e historias maravillosas y reales que estaban antes simplemente fuera de nuestro alcance, pero es que las queremos en portada. Y la presión es tal que comienza a verse cómo la maquinaria de sacar dinero de la notoriedad se corrompe. En la web de National Geographic aparecía el otro día una fotografía impresionante de unos árboles milenarios en Botswana, de una fotógrafa que lleva años recorriendo estos testigos del cambio del mundo en diferentes lugares. El fondo estrellado, con una impresionante Vía Láctea, hacía de diadema del grupo de baobabs. Pero era un montaje, al menos una imagen muy retocada, cosa que en las redes comenzó a denunciarse rápidamente. La fotógrafa culpó a un becario y lo achacó a la premura por publicar sus trabajos, la revista dijo que era un incidente que debían investigar... Ahora se va sabiendo que esto no era una sola foto, que pasa más veces, que la presión por tener la imagen más sorprendente se ha convertido en invitación al fraude. ¿De verdad queremos imágenes fraudulentas e impresionantes o preferimos periodismo sin mentira? No lo tengo claro.
Nota:
* Las suscripciones al RD abundaban en las casas españolas de los años 60 y 70. Leí por algún sitio alguna vez algo, pero no me acuerdo qué historia había detrás de esa pasión por una publicación que, eso seguro, llegó a ser la de mayor tirada del mundo hasta su bancarrota hace menos de 10 años.
