La Flotilla Anti-Ciencia (Será En París)
Attacking Astronomy (The Anti-Science flotilla)Quienes quieran acercarse a la UNESCO la semana que viene, podrán saber mucho sobre el papel de la astronomía en la sociedad y en la cultura. La Unión Astronómica Internacional celebra en París del 19 al 23 de enero el primer simposio del Año Internacional de la Astronomía: IAU Symposium 260: "The Rôle of Astronomy in Society and Culture". Lo de arriba es el abstract de la ponencia de este pez, de parte del Planetario de Pamplona y de ARP Sociedad para el Avance del Pensamiento Crítico.
400 years of science of Astronomy and we still have to deal with astrologers, young Universe creationists, flat-earthers, millenarists, contactees, abductees and conspiranoids of various types... Giving audiences “what they want”, audiovisual media are obviously inclined to show and support this anti-science flotilla. Are we prepared to confront irrationality? Following the strict observance of the scientific method we would never even consider propositions that simply do not match any of its criteria. But they are out there, and we have to learn to face them in the same arena they use to promote themselves.

(Lo de "flotilla" no sé si quedará mono, pero el término hace referencia al hecho de que la formación de las fuerzas anticientíficas es, realmente, parte de una flota o ejército mayor. Podría haber usado escuadrón, pero el gustazo de usar en inglés una palabra castellana no tiene precio)
